A Sweet and Special Boston City Hall Elopement

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a lovely couple who eloped at Boston City Hall. I love to photograph these small, intimate celebrations which are often just the couple or the couple and a few friends and family.

The couple opted not to do a first look, and instead I had encouraged them each of them to come up with a few words of gratitude and affirmation for each other before they embarked on their civil ceremony. The couple had only one guest an attendance, the groom’s mother.

The Boston City Hall

The couple asked if I was available to photograph their wedding a few weeks in advance, and thankfully I had availability as the date was a weekday. Depending on the season, my availability can vary, so as soon as clients reach out, the better!

On their elopement day, I arrived in Boston about an hour early and surprised the bride with a few casual photos of the Boston City Hall, letting her know that the weather was beautiful and I would be there waiting for her when she arrived. She had a lot of family who were not able to make it to the wedding, and she was documenting everything on social media throughout the day.

One of my favorite things about photographing weddings is watching couples go from all nerves before the ceremony to excitement and happiness once the ceremony is done.

Once the bride and groom said “I do” we walked around some spots in Boston that were special to them, enjoying some cake and special moments. The couple had a lot of fun together and the took a lot of fun and spontaneous photos that really show their love and affection for each other.

Some great hints and tips for your City Hall Wedding:

-Keep the guest list small—it was so much fun to make most of the photos about the couple.

-Be up for an “adventure”. We walked A LOT, and got a lot of really special shots along the way.

-Ask your photographer to capture the landmarks, architecture and landscape.

-Bring some champagne to drink in the park or bring a cake to cut.

-Choose the right elopement photographer that knows the area and will help you plan out your day. In smaller weddings and elopements, there isn’t normally a wedding planner, and the photographer should be really integral to helping you know plan everything in a way that will work time-wise.
